Manoir Boutonniere
About This Villa
A short stroll from the shops, restaurants and weekly market, Manoir Boutonniere is a historic house set in large grounds in a traditional Gironde village in the Bordeaux wine region, only a 20-minute drive from the beautiful vineyards of Saint-Émilion.
It feels like a step back in time as you enter Manoir Boutonniere via its impressive hallway with wonderfully tiled flooring and panelled walls. Wander through to the traditional salon and elegant dining room with its decorative fireplace and bar before kicking back in the TV lounge and reading room. A study allows you to work from home if you need to whilst the kitchen is fantastically equipped with modern appliances for family feasts using delicious seasonal produce from nearby colourful markets.
There are four spacious double bedrooms on the first floor, all with king or super king-size double beds and en suite bathrooms, whilst the top floor is home to four further doubles and two new bathrooms. Gather with friends outside to enjoy a bottle of Pomerol’s finest vintage as you relax in the garden with seating areas to the front and rear. Furthermore, after a round of boules, the summer house is a delightful spot for al-fresco meals on warm summer evenings.
Open the gated grounds and you are in the heart of the village opposite the church with a small supermarket, a highly regarded bakery, butchers, wine maker and several restaurants alongside a Friday morning market. You can visit Bordeaux, Périgueux and Libourne by train from the village’s station just a 15-minute walk away. For lazy days closer to home, stroll to the open-air swimming pool open on most afternoons in July and August, only 500m away near the banks of the River Isle.
Within a 20-minute drive, embrace the beauty of Saint-Émilion with its rich heritage, underground catacombs and incredible vineyards which are classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The wineries of Pomerol are also a short distance by car and even closer are the atmospheric markets of Coutras and Saint-Seurin-sur-l'lsle.
Experience the Sunday morning market in Libourne, enjoy a wealth of water-based activities by Lac des Dagueys and canoe along the Isle River near Montpon-Ménestérol. As well as spending the day in Bordeaux with its magnificent architecture, vibrant restaurant scene and wine-bars, soak up the heritage of Bergerac and take a river cruise along the Dordogne, one of the many beautiful rivers in this part of south-western France.
