Chateau Des Figuiers
About This Villa
This 12th century château in Gascony is set in 40-acre grounds with glorious views of rolling hills, vines and typical landscapes of the Gers. Sit out on your terrace with a glass of wine from the estate’s vineyard, play tennis on your very own court and cool off in the swimming pool on warm summer days. It’s also wonderful being just a short walk from a fortified historic village.
Admire the old gatehouse as you approach Château Des Figuiers, then be enchanted by the old tower and huge entrance door as you approach this historic abode. The ground floor is home to a traditional salon with a huge fireplace, sofas and a dining table whilst there is a smaller living room with a Smart TV (bring your own devices to plug in), DVD player and library with lots of books to choose from. Enjoy fresh baguettes and pastries on the wooden kitchen table accompanied by good coffee.
Historic stone steps spiral up the tower to the first floor where there are three doubles, a twin bedroom and three bathrooms (two en suite). All four bedrooms have their own desk in case you need to work at home or simply be inspired by the Gascon landscapes as you draw or write.
In the summer months (May to September), there’s additional accommodation across two other buildings including a medieval bergerie annexe and two additional bedrooms (one for children). During this period, Château Des Figuiers is able to sleep up to 14 guests.
Pass the château’s vineyard, fruit trees and statues as well as the walled gardens with shady spots for al-fresco lunch beneath the dappled light of the tree and relaxation across the lawn and terraces. Old stone steps lead towards the private tennis court and a swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers and wild gardens. There’s table tennis near where the wine is stored and a pretty vine-clad pergola for barbecued feasts above the swimming pool.
It's no wonder the owners have been holidaying here for over 30 years – it is their genuine holiday home that they so love. It’s around a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk to a little fortified village with a bakery, butchers, grocery store, restaurant and bar as well as a lovely weekly market.
Located between historic Auch and Condom, discover other wonderful market towns close by such as Castéra-Verduzan, Vic Fezensac and Fleurance, and venture to picture-perfect villages including Larressingle, Fourcès and Montréal, all just over half an hour away.
Pass undulating scenery of summer sunflowers, vines and rolling hills as you cycle or hike through the glorious countryside, come across gastronomic restaurants serving fine local cuisine, sample Armagnac across vineyards and embrace the slow pace of life in the region referred to as the ‘Tuscany of France’.
